Background
As
per the Kerala Government directive on applying technology to develop
assistive devices for people with disabilities, ICFOSS started
initiatives for the betterment of the visually impaired. The
initiatives for the visually impaired are carried out based on the
concept developed by ICFOSS - AKSHI(meaning eye).
By associating
with the schools for the visually impaired, ICFOSS started the
research and development of learning aid for the visually impaired
students.
The Assistive Technology team of ICFOSS is currently
developing learning devices for the visually impaired students. The
team is also exploring the development of general utility devices for
the visually impaired community. These activities are based on the
suggestions provided by the domain experts.

1. LEARNING SIMPLIFIED
Lightweight activity based device for 3 letter words. Puzzle is created by setting a block pattern on the platform. The puzzle is solved by placing the correct letter blocks in the vacant positions.
2. EASY TO USE
Handy platform and the letter blocks together constitutes the device. Letter blocks have the letters and the braille embossed in contrasting colour. Void blocks helps the students to identify the positions where the letter blocks are not required. The cut at the top left corner helps to find the correct orientation.
